• Dumaring Village Government and
• KPH2) Berau Pantai.
The Collaborative Conservation is initiated and managed to achieve six objectives in order to realize six main outcomes (see objectives and main outcomes).
The Collaborative Conservation Program has been implemented since January 2020. Currently, the scope of Collaborative Conservation Program includes Dumaring Village Forest (5,083 ha)3), Tanah Patiraja (673 ha)4), and riparian buffer of five main rivers in Dumaring Village (614 ha)5).
In those areas, the Collaborative Conservation Program has been initiating and facilitating forest and river conservation (focusing on riparian buffer of five main rivers) and community enterprise development with community organizations that includes:
• LPHD Pangalima Jerrung with its seven business units6) (in Dumaring Village Forest),
• Kekal Patiraja7) (in Patiraja customary land) and
• KTH Bakil-Dumaring8) (in the riparian buffer of five main rivers).
The Collaborative Conservation Program has also been facilitating the three program partners of community groups to develop a long-term collaboration with relevant community groups/ institutions officially set up by the Village Government:
• BUMK Dumaring9),
• Pokdarwis Kampung Dumaring10) and
• Penggerak PKK Kampung Dumaring11).
Facilitating the establishment and development of a collaboration network between the community groups with legal or customary rights to lands and resources with the village government officially established community groups/institutions is consistently carried out by the Collaborative Conservation Program as it is a crucial part to the successful, long term forest and river conservation and sustainable use.
The Collaborative Conservation Program has also been initiating and maintaining government engagement through regular communication, coordination and visits, particularly with the Berau Regent, Berau Vice Regent and Berau Regency Government senior officials relevant to the mission of the Collaborative Conservation Program (e.g. Environment and Sanitary, Cultural and Tourism, Community Empowerment and Village Development, Education, Communication and Information).
Local government engagement is critical in attaining and maintaining their attention, support, involvement and concrete and consistent contribution to forest and river conservation and community enterprise development from forest and river sustainable use in Dumaring Village. The goal of this approach is to create a consistent and concrete contribution of the local government towards forest and river conservation and community development in their administrative territory and eventually adopt it as one of the development agenda of the Berau Regency Government with Dumaring as one of their priority villages.
